FAQs on the Extended Spring Break | COVID-19 Shutdown

Q:  My child is a senior, will they still graduate on time?
During the COVID-19 crisis, the Governor and the Ohio Department of Education have mentioned numerous times their intent to be very flexible with the Class of 2020.  We expect more specific information in the coming weeks.  The Governor has stated that students will still be able to graduate.  All students are urged to continue completing their assignments which will impact grades and fulfillment of graduation requirements.

Q: Is it possible that the school year would be extended?
The length of the school year is determined by the Ohio Legislature; we expect they will provide an answer to this question in the near future.   It is imperative, however, that students conscientiously complete their assignments as provided by their instructors since they are being graded and reported for Term 4.

Q: What about programs with minimum hours for certification, such as Cosmetology or STNA?
Students enrolled in programs that require a minimum number of hours to meet a Federal or State requirement,  will be updated on any changes to these requirements or deadlines as the district is informed by the governing entity. UVCC does not have any influence in determining the hour minimums or other established requirements set by these entities.

Q: What about students who are involved with Advanced Placement, Internships, or Pre-Apprenticeship?
Students involved in Advanced Placement, Pre-Apprenticeship, or Early Placement are able to continue working at the discretion of their parents/guardians and the employer.

Q: What if my child is enrolled in College Credit Plus courses?
If your child is enrolled directly through the college, you will need to follow that institution’s plan for completing college coursework.

Q:  What about mental health services?
Currently, our partner, New Creation Counseling Center, is developing  a plan to provide teleconferencing to all current clients. They will be contacting parents in the near future. If you need to contact New Creation, their number is 937-667-4678.  If you are in an immediate crisis, please reach out to the crisis hotline by texting HOME to 741741.

Q: Are UVCC  facilities available to outside groups?
Because the buildings are closed, meetings and activities scheduled by outside groups during that time are canceled until further notice.  We apologize for this inconvenience and hope that groups understand the unusual situation occurring across the State of Ohio.

Q: How is UVCC making decisions?
We continue to monitor and follow the guidance from the Miami County Board of Health, Ohio Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control. In addition, some decisions are the result of Governor Mike DeWine’s directives.

Q: Are we still holding after-school events at UVCC
Until further notice and in response to Governor DeWine’s emergency order and the Ohio Department of Health recommendations to limit social contact, we have suspended all after-school events. This includes field trips, competitions, open houses, etc.

Q:  What about school-sponsored trips?
At this time, we have canceled all school-sponsored trips, both in and out-of-state until further notice.

Q:  When will students go back to school?
At this time, UVCC will resume a regular schedule on Monday, April 6 unless the closure period is extended by Governor DeWine.
