Upper Valley Career Center Names Students of the Quarter

Upper Valley Career Center has named Avery Allison, Jackson Center High School Senior; Kaitlyn Arthur, Piqua High School Junior; and Anna Walker, Troy High School Junior as Students of the Quarter for the third nine-week grading period. These three individuals were selected from a group of eight students, nominated by faculty for the quarter honors.

Avery Allison is an Interactive Media student, who is described by her English teacher, Mr. Ned Courtright as, “…very intelligent, independent, and mature…” Her academic teachers and lab instructor all echo his sentiments, noting that she is an exceptional student who constantly gives top effort. Avery resides in Jackson Center, with parents Kent & Michele Allison.

Kaitlyn Arthur was nominated by Teacher Academy instructor, Mrs. Biffy Nutter, who says, “Kaitlyn is always on top of the work that needs done. She always has a goal in mind and works to achieve that goal.” Kaitlyn is a college-prep student, taking academic classes through Edison State Community College and her career tech lab training at the Career Center. She is the daughter of Matthew and Amanda Arthur from Piqua.

Anna Walker is a student in the Medical Careers Academy program at the Career Center while also fulfilling her academic coursework at Edison State through the College Credit Plus program. Her nominating lab instructor, Mrs. Shellie Gyetvai says Anna, “is currently working on her Phlebotomy Certification at Edison. She has excellent attendance and follows all classroom guidelines.” Anna is the daughter of Willie and Ronda Walker of Troy.

Nominations for Student of the Quarter are made by career-technical program instructors. Students' attendance, citizenship, leadership, and effort are rated. In addition, the student's academic instructors are asked to rate each nominee's effort during the nine-week grading period.

Students earning an "Award of Merit" designation for Student of the Quarter honors are level one students Ethan Dyke, Automotive Technologies from Troy High School, Pauline Hicks, Medical Careers Academy from Piqua High School, and Chloe Littleton, Veterinary Science from Piqua High School.  Level Two recognized for “Award of Merit” are Kearston Blair, Early Childhood and Care from Piqua High School and Katelynn Niemeyer, Interactive Media from New Knoxville High School.
