The RED X Campaign
According to the Ohio Attorney General Human Trafficking Commission, “Human trafficking is an estimated multi-billion a year international enterprise that forces the most vulnerable among us into the horrors of modern-day slavery.” It’s hard to believe that criminals could prey upon children, but a preliminary report done by the Attorney Generals cites 13 years old as the most common age in Ohio for youth to become victims of child sex trafficking. Other data reveals that throw-away and run-away children are “recruited” by a trafficker in less than 48 hours after leaving home. Nationally, over 100,000 children are thought to be involved in the sex trade.
In response to this horrendous abuse, Upper Valley Career Center is partnering with the YWCA to conduct a two-week, grass-roots, student-driven Red X Campaign to help educate our youth about human trafficking as well as basic components of healthy relationships.
Graphics, updates and students’ learning tools will be found on this site and our facebook page. It's not exactly what our followers are used to seeing here, but we hope our community partners and career-tech supporters will join us in the cause by taking this opportunity to learn and explore ways we can all educate others about this critical issue. Let’s end it now.
