Seven students from the Landscape & Natural Resource program just returned from Mississippi State University where they competed with 500 college students in the 47th annual National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC)

Seven students from the Landscape & Natural Resource program just returned from Mississippi State University where they competed with 500 college students in the 47th annual National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC). 

Over the course of five days students were involved in a multitude of landscape and professional growth workshops, a career exploration event with over 100 employers looking for the nation’s top talent, event briefings, and landscape competitions. 

Students who had the privilege of attending this event are: Brock Smith, Piqua; Wyatt Clark, Sidney; Boston Sherman, Piqua; Tommy Grise, Piqua; Cooper Gambrell, Troy; Jackson Hemmert, Piqua; and Michael Hohenstein, Miami East. 

Students competed in a variety of competitions and some of those who came out at the top include:
  • Brock Smith and Michael Hohenstein: 4th Place Irrigation Assembly 
  • Boston Sherman: 38th Place Overall Competitor. 11th in Compact Excavator Operation, 13th in Skid Steer Operation, and 14th in Backhoe Operation
  • Jackson Hemmert and Tommy Grise: 11th Place in Safety First

“Our high school students competed very well against collegiate teams and gained valuable skills and experience that they will carry with them well into their careers,” said John Kreitzer, Landscape and Natural Resources instructor.
